New Lexicon

I used to think of the ultimate love,

the deepest form, as an embrace:

a knowing, held so close the bodies

of the figures fused into glass,

a single pane through which to see the world.

Come to realize this is only flesh,

a meager portion of the delicacy at hand,

no matter how well you know, no matter

how deep you feel.

Now, I’ll settle for nothing less

than creating art together,

your pen shading the curves

of the flowers I pressed

into a sculpture of the world.
