Desert

Everything all patiently waiting

amongst the most silent breeze

I sit in the red dirt deep in the desert

pretending to be a coyote before the sun comes up.

How he would yawn through his shivers

how he would focus his tired eyes on some fluttering

in that long off cottonwood yonder.

How he would scamper from his perch

and toss up little red dirt

with each gentle footstep.
