Already Here
What would you discover
About your truth
If you accepted
You’re already here,
Already living?
You’d be like a tourist who loves the desert
Arriving as a vast canyon
Only to realize the complexity of its laced crags,
The coldness of its red stone,
And the brightness,
Washing the brilliant reds and yellows
Into off-white.
“How could you already be here?
How could I not have known?”
The desert teaches
How small and young we are.
It takes bravery of a child to crest the lip
Of your own deep canyon
And explore each organism
In the face of the vast
Unabashed
Void.
To bend over and inspect a pebble under a sage brush inside a small crack,
Old and broken and faded and wise,
And attempt to find from where in the wall it fell.
