So Dark

I want it to be so dark when i wake

that even if i press upon my eyes like a jow

the world is still black

i want to read every book before the sun rises

each page like a mountain

each jacket a range

what stories hide in your crags?

what ephifonies await me at your peaks?

I want it to be autumn

so as I walk your trail in the valley by the stream

with my dog in the afternoon

the light can leak past bare branches

jagged and gnarled against the sky

my dog stops to point at once

but then continues on past the leaves
