Bird

Early in the morning

When the sky is already the color of pale water

But the mountains are still black

And color is barely appearing in the grass

The bird is singing, beautifully,

As if to say

I am lonely

I am tired

But I know I am enough.

So he asked the bird

“Why do you sing so beautifully in the morning?”

And the bird replied,

“I sing because my mind

Is simple enough to know I have everything I need.

And I am strong enough

To fetch food early in the morning

When there is only one star left

Hanging above the black mountain.”
